We recently took part in a research project ultimately aimed at improving our online safety.
When we talk about online safety we are not just talking about credit card details! What we are exposed to online can have a negative impact on our mental well-being; cyber bullying is an increasing issue.
We have all read about internet trolls and seen things aimed at us or at others that in the ‘real world’ we wouldn’t accept. Perhaps you might like to get involved in the research see below for more info:
Research Project on Online material
My name is Harriet and I am completing a PhD on the impacts of viewing internet material. I need LGBTQ adults (over 18 years) to take part in a 30 minute study which involves viewing some internet material and answering some questions on what they have just seen.
The aim of the project is to inform policy makers, internet providers and the Criminal Justice System about ways to make the internet safer.
Some of the material you see may be upsetting to you (it may involve bad language and anti-LGBT sentiment). You do not have to answer any questions that you do not wish to and you may withdraw from the study at any time. The study can be done face to face or over Skype and the phone (provided you have an internet connection and a laptop/tablet).
The research is being conducted at Sussex University and has received ethical approval.
