Live in personal care assistant East London UK wide applicants no experience necessary:£14,679 PA

This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced PA or someone who is completely new to this line of work (no experience necessary) who would enjoy a job in which you can make a genuine, meaningful difference to helping someone improve their quality of life.

Cat lovers are especially encouraged to apply as this job means you get to share a flat with me and my beautiful cat (and assist me with some of the associated pet care).

The role involves being on call for 4 days, working (live-in) with me for 7 days, then being on call for another 3 days, before having 7 days guaranteed free time. I’m a queer, severely disabled man in his late twenties living in the East London Docklands area. I’m currently bedbound and looking for someone patient, willing to follow instructions and who doesn’t mind late nights (with the bonus of starting work late in the mornings). Manual handling is a part of the role – experience is a bonus or you could just be willing to learn.

The annual salary for this job is £14,679.17 PAYE (before holiday pay/entitlement).

As someone who believes in the social model of disability, and the rights of disabled people to make autonomous choices, I see the roles of ‘PA’ and ‘carer’ to be very different. It is important to me to be assisted under my own direction and not passively looked after. There is of course still space for your own initiative. If you also share these values, and are willing to adapt to calling yourself a PA and not a carer, then we may be a good match.

For personal reasons, I would prefer women or non binary identified PAs.

If you’re interested in this role, please get in touch with your answers to the following 4 questions:

● What attracts you to the role of PA?
● What do you think the term ‘independent living’ means?
● Are you available to commit to the 1 week in 3 schedule described above, or are you looking for emergency/temporary work only?
● When are you able to start?
